What particle size is required for inkjet pigments?
Inkjet pigments require ultra-fine particle size — typically <200nm (D50) with a narrow distribution. Larger particles will clog printer nozzles (typical nozzle diameter: 20-50μm). Our inkjet-grade pigments undergo additional micronization and surface treatment to achieve the required fineness.
Which pigments work best for aqueous inkjet inks?
For water-based inkjet, we recommend PR122 (Quinacridone Magenta), PY150 (Nickel Azo Yellow), and PB15:4 (Phthalocyanine Blue). These offer excellent dispersion stability, low viscosity, and high color strength at low loading levels. PB15:4 is preferred over PB15:3 for inkjet due to its superior flocculation resistance.
How do UV-curable inkjet pigments differ from aqueous grades?
UV inkjet pigments must be stable under UV curing conditions without causing premature polymerization. PR254 (DPP Red), PY151 (Benzimidazolone Yellow), and PB15:4 are commonly selected. Surface treatment is critical — the pigment must disperse well in acrylate monomers without affecting cure speed or causing yellowing.
What causes inkjet nozzle clogging with pigment inks?
Three main causes: (1) Oversized particles — even 0.1% of particles above 1μm can clog nozzles. (2) Pigment agglomeration — poor dispersion stability leads to flocculation over time. (3) Drying at the nozzle — pigment inks dry faster than dye inks at the nozzle plate. Solution: use inkjet-grade pigments with proper surface treatment and optimized dispersant systems.
How do pigment inks compare to dye inks for inkjet?
