- Light fastness: Light fastness rating is assessed on 1 to 8 Blue Wool scale where 1 = ‘Poor’ and 8 = ‘Excellent’.
- Heat Stability: Heat stability values given indicate the maximum temperature at which the pigment can be stoved for 10 min. on the full shade and in reductions without undergoing any significant change in shade.
- Oil absorption: The oil absorption is determined on the basis of EN ISO 787-5 and given in g linseed oil per 100 gm. pigment.
- Solvent bleeding: The bleeding in solvents is tested using the powder grades and the visual rating given on 1 to 5 Grey scale
where 1 = ‘Heavy bleeding’ and 5 = ‘No bleeding”

Frequently Asked Questions — PIGMENT BLUE 15:3
What specific application advantages does HP BLUE 4452J (Pigment Blue 15:3) offer for inkjet inks?
HP BLUE 4452J (Pigment Blue 15:3, CAS 147-14-8) delivers high color strength and excellent light fastness, making it ideal for high-grade inkjet inks. Its phthalocyanine chemistry ensures good weather fastness and acid/alkali resistance, while the greenish shade provides a clean, vibrant blue. These properties meet the stringent performance requirements of water-based and solvent-based inkjet formulations without compromising jetting stability.
How does HP BLUE 4452J perform in solvent-based and water-based printing inks beyond inkjet?
For offset, solvent-based, and water-based inks, HP BLUE 4452J offers outstanding pigment stability with light fastness exceeding 7 (blue wool scale) and heat stability up to 200°C. Its phthalocyanine structure resists bleeding in xylene and methyl ethyl ketone, ensuring consistent color strength and minimal migration—critical for flexo, gravure, and screen printing applications.
Is Pigment Blue 15:3 suitable for industrial coatings and powder coatings?
Yes. HP BLUE 4452J (Pigment Blue 15:3) is recommended for solvent-based, water-based, and powder coatings. With a specific density of ~1.5 g/cm³ and excellent dispersion behavior, it provides uniform color development and high weather resistance. The pigment is especially effective in industrial and wood coatings where long-term UV stability and chemical fastness are required.
What are the key technical specifications for HP BLUE 4452J?
HP BLUE 4452J is a β-copper phthalocyanine (C.I. Pigment Blue 15:3) with EINECS 205-685-1. It delivers light fastness 7-8 (blue wool scale), heat stability to 200°C, and excellent chemical resistance. The pigment shows minimal bleeding in xylene and MEK, making it suitable for precision ink systems. Physical form is powder with a density of 1.48 g/cm³.
How does batch consistency of HP BLUE 4452J improve production reliability?
Honor Pigments tests each batch of HP BLUE 4452J for color strength, shade precision, dispersibility, and particle size distribution. Consistent phthalocyanine crystal form (β-phase) and controlled particle morphology ensure predictable viscosity and fluidity during ink and coating manufacturing, reducing waste and re-formulation needs.
